Fluid Grounds, will be in Paris on June 20th for it’s European premiere.
A date co-presented by the June Events Festival and the Centre National de la Danse de Pantin, within the framework of the event Camping 4.

This performative work, produced by Par B.L.eux and Sophie Corriveau and coproduced by the prestigious partners that are Charleroi Danse, Agora de la Dance, and the Festival TransAmériques, takes place at a crossroads between performance, choreography, installation and visual arts. Fluid Grounds is an immersive experience, somewhere between reality and action, perhaps an interdisciplinary parallel reality, in which improvisation, visual arts and movement merge into a rainbow of possibilities.

Dana Michel is joining Par B.L.eux as an associate artist

Montreal. November 16th 2017 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Par B.L.eux is pleased to announce that we are officially welcoming Dana Michel as an associated artist.

United by several shared work experiences, strong artistic affinities, as well as common values, Dana Michel and Benoît Lachambre join forces around a common message, under the Par B.L.eux umbrella. They explore in great depth new performance territories, use their socially conscious artistic process to wrestle with the events that shape our world, introducing new empathetic dynamics.

In her pieces, Michel explores the multiple facets of identity through intuitive improvisation. She brings to the fore the notions of performance alchemy and cultural bricolage – using live moments, object appropriation, and the juxtaposition of personal history with current preoccupations. After the immense success of Yellow Towel, she continues to criss-cross the globe with her new solo creation, Mercurial George. An exceptional choreographer and performer world-renowned for her moving work, Michel was awarded the Silver Lion for Innovation in Dance at the Venice Biennale in 2017.

After having benefited from Daniel Léveillé Danse’s assistance for several years, Michel now joins the Par B.L.eux company, teaming up with Benoît Lachambre, artistic director and founder, as well as Clara Furey, who has also been an associated artist since November 2016.

Par B.L.eux is a contemporary choreographic creation company, which continues to pursue a vision that has inspired it for more than 20 years: Redefining dance by emphasizing the importance of dialogue between choreographers and collaborators.

In 2016, in order to support artists with singular artistic practices, Par B.L.eux developed an artistic accompanying initiative. The latter is dedicated to assisting contemporary creators, who wish to produce and present works in a spirit of openness and collaboration, while developing interdisciplinary relationships, broadening the scope of dance.

Through this initiative, the company offers administrative, logistical and public relations support to artists that are committed to original, avant-garde artistic processes, which call into question the very foundations that define the performing arts. For Par B.L.eux, the evolution of dance depends on an abundance of ideas, as well as on the dynamic and continuous discussion of artistic concepts and processes. With a deep commitment to work towards raising the profile of dance, as well as preserving a diversity of practices within it, Par B.L.eux, continues to welcome artists on board who resonate with its artistic message.

This fall, Dana Michel began collaborating with Koen Vanhove, managing director of Key Performance, on the promotion and touring of her work. Key performance represents a select group of international artists including Marlene Monteiro Freitas, Jefta Van Dinther and Cullberg Ballet.

Dana Michel wishes to thank the entire Daniel Léveillé Danse team for its incredible work and the quality of its support over the years. She will continue her work as a choreographer and performer, now developing her performance projects in conjunction with Par B.L.eux.

After a European tour, culminating in a show at the Festival Moving in November in Helsinki, Dana Michel will perform Mercurial George in Ottawa at La Nouvelle Scène, as well as at the Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis before entering into a period of creation this winter.

Somatic practice with Benoît Lachambre

Zan Wimberley

Benoît Lachambre offers an open somatic practice for 2 weeks this fall

Active in the dance community since the 1970s, Benoît Lachambre first learned about Releasing in 1985. This kinesthetic approach to movement and its use of improvisation became an important influence on his choreographic work. He decided to immerse himself in an exploratory approach to movement and its sources, to seek out the authenticity of movement.
His work, both as a choreographer and a performer, has at its centre the hyper-awareness of the senses, and the connection between the somatic and the artistic is central to his practice.

Classes will be held at Par B.L.eux Studios, 5425 Casgrain Street, Suite 200 in Montreal from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Participants also chose to take 2 hours of workshops and leave at 12:30.

Week 1: October 30 to November 3, 2017
Week 2: November 6 to 10, 2017

Classes are open to people with advanced/ intermediate level dance.

Screen Shot 2017-06-07 at 10.42.55 AMFor its North-American premiere at the FTA, “Lifeguard” received a warm welcome from the public and the critics.

“It’s rare to see a dancing body go this far in a trance, it leaves you stunned. Mélanie Carpentier, Le Devoir, 30 mai 2017
“Lachambre – who is, as always, absolutely magnetic – plunges into the depths, internalizing the momentum and energy born in contact with others.” Iris Gagnon Paradis, La Presse, 31 mai 2017

“As soon as our spectators’ masks fall off, the magic takes over.” Margot Baffet, Ma Culture, 3 juin 2017

“With a powerful guttural voice, an animistic spirit, and by inviting gestures, [Benoît Lachambre] creates a floating dynamic that unites the participants.” Guylaine Massoutre, Jeu Revue de Théâtre, 30 mai 2017.

« Lifeguard » does not protect from anything but it makes life more joyful in that moment when, together, the public with its energetic transmission, guides the dancer. » Emmanuel Serafini, Inferno Magazine, 3 juin 2017
