For the 4th season of the television program Visages de la danse, Benoît Lachambre has agreed to be one of the four figures portrayed. Aline Apostolka hosts the show, which is recorded at Montréal’s Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique.
Here is a synopsis of the episode: “A cellular consciousness of the unifying force; breaking down the hierarchy of the body to reveal a connected body, instead of a body always in control.”
Choreographer and performer Benoît Lachambre believes that one of the worst consequences of colonization was the disappearance of the rich knowledge and traditions of our ancestors. He rejects classical forms, and embraces somatic practices and borrows from the fertile ground of African dance and shamanic traditions. His works are an answer to old forms, and an appeal for something new. Can movement break down borders; bring people back to nature, back in touch with the Earth that they live on?
Upcoming broadcasts are scheduled for Canal Savoir on June 19th at 7:00 pm, June 21 at 9:00 pm, and July 23 at 8:30 pm… or on demand, on the Internet.
The three other portraits for this season will be Daniel Léveillé, Catherine Tardif and Lucie Grégoire.
